1.  Always protect yourself and those assisting you with your work.  You are dealing with highly contaminated and hazardous bacteria, mold, viruses, along with potentially "live" downed electrical lines, snakes and/or other reptiles and numerous wild and domestic animals that are equally trying to SURVIVE and will fight to SURVIVE - They are hungry and scared!

2.  The photo above is positively the MINIMUM articles of personal protective equipment that you MUST wear at all times within any flooded or mold contaminated environment... ALWAYS!  I suffer today because we did not have the knowledge in the 1980s... and in my mid-60s today, I suffer from respiratory illness and asthma.  I will share with you what works from hands-on experience.

3. I REPEAT:  Please wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) - again I stress this, as your health and well-being are unnecessarily at risk without them.  The following link will show a full PPE during a fog-cleaning and surface decontamination conducted in Northern Ohio in 2006.  SEE PHOTO

Directions:  Put on your personal protective equipment first!

1. Mix 4ozs of ZymeAway Concentrate into each 1-gallon of water to be used.  (NOTE:  A single quart bottle of concentrate will provide about 800 sq. ft. of washing.)  1-gallon of concentrate will provide about 3 washings in a 1,000 sq. ft. location without the use of any toxins, poisons, or caustic harsh chemicals.

2. Spray on surfaces in 4' sections.  Brush the mixture into the surfaces, (NOTE:  If dry wall - it MUST be totally removed to 12" to 18" above the highest stain marks as the structural integrity of the dry-wall has been compromised... and soaked with flood water debris.  Discard all foam cushions, mattresses, and other bulky soft materials, but... all fabrics, clothing and even a throw rug can be salvaged and washed with ZymeAway.

3. Allow the brushed-in mixture to penetrate into the target surfaces for a period of at least 5-minutes before beginning the rinsing process.  You must rinse away all cleaned debris and matter from all contaminated (washed) surfaces... or vacuum (with a HEPA filtered machine).  You must remove all of the washed debris, as it is still considered an allergen, and it will dry and become aerosolized into the air system and cause ill effects on the occupants.

4. You can assist drying with a mechanical fan device and if weather permitting and you have windows in the target area, open them for fresh air and a location to exhaust the heavy stale air from the contaminated location.

5. If using a fogging machine, you should use canister face masks shown in the following photos with full personal protective equipment.  The reason is basic, fogging saturates the entire ambient air capacity and our lungs are designed to breathe fresh clean air - and fogged air is also filled with particulate matter and spores.  SEE PHOTO

Mixing Directions

You must always use the 4oz to 1-gal of water mix ratio for all mold and flood water cleaning!

NOTE:  You do not need more than 4oz, but you may need to clean more than one time.  Usually it will take two or three cleanings!

During the Spring of 2011 we experienced severe floods in northern Ohio, and our home was flooded for the 1st time, and we needed to clean our basement 3 full times!

It was a royal pain, but it definitely had to be done! After the 3rd cleaning, our basement was in very good condition - (2 weeks of cleaning and testing!)

All traces of flood water debris and mold were cleaned away thoroughly!
